The weekly numbers are in for the ‘most played games on Xbox Live’ and I’m happy to say Call of Duty 4 is holding on to the #1 spot and has been for five weeks now; Which is awesome considering how many amazing multiplayer games are out and coming out right now. With the new feature patch releasing this past week, adding in the new kill cams and a few other additional features to multiplayer, we saw some record numbers of people playing. The new DLC multiplayer maps are looking great and getting closer to a planned release, not to mention the fact that we might be adding an additional map bringing the total to FOUR new maps in the map pack. No news on whether they’ll be priced or not and no new release date announced. We’re also going to start adding in and testing out some new playlists that I’ve talked about in the past, now that the feature patch has hit, which is going to add a lot to the multiplayer considering you could log on and have a completely new gametype to try out and enjoy at anytime. All in all, I say we’re going to be putting up a fight against any contenders for the #1 spot for a while now.

4 maps, 4 billion more hours of entertainment, try and get them free, fight M$! (or at least, pleasantly debate with them).
KoOL AiD // March 5, 2008 at 3:12 am
please make the maps free this will make it better for u and us, you get more people playing the game agian and we get free maps
Jordan // March 5, 2008 at 3:51 am
How bout 1 map free as a “teaser” then the other 3 cost 4-500 MS points?
TMNT Clint // March 5, 2008 at 4:29 am
the maps have to be free… it wouldn’t make sense to purchase maps to play… unless they were restricted to private matches and/or local split screen. i guess IW could throw them in the rotation for free but make it cost money to play private matches… but that would suck. at any rate… i love this game and plan to keep playing again and again and again… TURTLE POWER!

Glad to see it at #1 again. Hopefully it will stay there until Gears 2 comes out in November.

What can we expect from the Map Packs? I’d love to see one that makes more use of the Night Vision goggles.
Anwan // March 5, 2008 at 6:43 am
Free or not I’m sure almost everyone will get them, although free is always good :)!
and I cant wait to see what new gametypes you guys think up, the possibilities are endless!!
Something I would seriously love would be Hardcore HQ, I can see it now, no more random grenades………….
that puts a smile to my face!
Matt // March 5, 2008 at 7:38 am
I speak on behalf of almost everyone I play with:
We’d love a hardcore team tactical!! That would be spankin’ awesome man. That would enable hardcore mode for not just 3v3, but it’d make every objective in Tac hardcore as well, which is brilliant! Give it a shot 402, it’d be really cool.

The 360 DLC will work as it did with COD2. I can’t recall if I paid for them or not, but you got to choose your playlist and select whether you wanted to join games with DLC maps or not. I think that I would pay 500GP for 3 maps, unless of course, there was a significant upgrade to the 360 build which addressed
- host migration
- AIM ASSIST ‘ALWAYS ON’
- new gametypes
- overkill gold tigerskins
- new MP challenges
- simultaneous Helis/airstrikes
- Lobby Player Mute
- Retro COD maps
- Vehicles
If that were the case then I would be willing to pay around 1000GP to get many more hours out of COD4.
dodmaster // March 5, 2008 at 9:40 am
And yes, that’s xboxlive Gold Pieces, lol.

This is awesome.
Halo has their stupid Championship (Sponsored by the US Army thing) going on for how many weeks now? And they’ve not hit #1 for 5 Weeks!!!
COD 4 is awesome.
Halo = Cartoon
Gethz // March 5, 2008 at 1:06 pm
i don’t mind parting with a small amount of microsoft points if the ‘4′ maps offer value for money.
Maybe split the pack into 1 free one as a thankyou for the communities support and the other 3 for a small cost.
Bungies system of releasing a map pack for a small cost then letting them go free X amount of time later seems the preferred format of microsoft and xboxlive players
The game is crying out for a playlist update imo and still no acknowledgement of the teamkilling issues that hardcore mode has began to suffer?

http://www.consolemonster.com/newspost.php?id=0000003133 apprently the site is reporting that these are leaked screenshots of the new multiplayer maps, any truth in this?
donkeybars // March 5, 2008 at 5:44 pm
I would be really upset if we had to pay for the new maps on xbox360. If I had purchased the PC version, I could download any map I want and even make a map for myself. But I bought the game for the 360.
Any word on the maps people create for PC available for download on the 360, for free?
donkeybars // March 5, 2008 at 5:45 pm
And as far as those ‘leaked screens,’ I highly doubt those are the maps for the map pack. Robert has been hinting at the fact that the maps are in new parts of the world, not seen in the game.
rakehater // March 5, 2008 at 5:53 pm
Those aren’t the new maps. Those pictures have been out there since the launch of the game. I believe they are screenshots that are somewhere in the PC files and likely screenshots of maps that didn’t make the cut for the game.
*Im not 100% on this, but I know I saw those screenshots just days after the game came out.

I heard an interview where you mentioned the original concepts for Air Strikes. In the interview it was mentioned that to acquire an airstrike you had to hold a position for a period of time. In this interview you mentioned Overgrown’s barn being a location where this would happen.
Although you found you didn’t like this stradegy in testing, I think it would make for a really fun game type.
I’m looking forward to all the updated content. Thanks for supporting your community.

yo thanks again on the update
if the maps arent free it’d be cool if they gave 1 map free then pay for the rest i like taht idea…….but free is always good
RamboCommando // March 5, 2008 at 10:57 pm
Make sure you release the map and change the play lists before March 18, or RB6-2 will take away a lot of your players.
Chaz32621 // March 5, 2008 at 11:34 pm
@RamboCommando
Right im sure RB6-2 is going to make a comback and be the top game.If you rember right where was RB6 at on multiplayer? Didnt go anywheres so I doubt that alot. Call of duty 4 has worked to hard to get thrown around in one day. Your an idiot if you think that.
@Fourzerotwo. Take this to Consideration. You guys take your time bec if i have to pay for these which i hope dosnt come to that. Then i want to get a big money worth out of them. But tell me one thing. At what cost does your team at IW have to pay to make these maps? Remeber i paid a good amount for this to play on 360 and many others as i can see from the toped play game. And remeber Halo is sending out there new maps which means there older maps they realsed for sale not to long ago will become free. Hum? They look pretty cool. I may just play halo with the new maps till. COD4 maps become free if that thing comes to being. Other then that. You deserve top number 1. Atleast for 3 months.
Good job to you and your team for your achivements, and hard work. Im sure you guys work on this for a while. It was worth the money.
Dglsmike // March 6, 2008 at 1:09 am
Would that not be cool to have so many kills like they do with Uav and Airstrke but to also get a pack of dogs that will take off and attack the other players
Mr. Enigma // March 6, 2008 at 2:58 am
I really hope this map pack is free. I hate this new era of having to pay for more maps. I come from the generation of everything being free except expansion packs. Restore my faith, Infinity Ward.

really looking forward to some new maps, maybe a snow level like the end of that movie Shooter, but please shoot me an email about any update about improving LAN gaming. again thanks for keeping us all updated!
Anthony_ // March 6, 2008 at 5:46 am
Hey love the game, however since this patch will not be purchasing the DLC content until the host migration issues are resolved.
You will find alot of Aussie’s will be doing the same we can’t justify paying for something that atm does not work.
Regards,
Anthony

Congrats to IW for maintaining the somewhat prestigious #1 spot on XBL. You’ve certainly made one hell of a game, and we are more the happy that you are continuing to improve upon what is already an extremely solid title. It will be interesting to see how many people branch off for a period of time when a few of the new shooters hit shelves this month.
I’m one of those ‘DLC should be free’ types. It should be a decision based on what the developer wants to do. I would be more willing to buy content for any game if most of the money didn’t go to M$. The point system is retarded as it is, thankfully Sony realized that. Having to calculate how much an item costs to download is a joke. I digress…
The patch has been pleasing overall, sometimes the spawn thing gets to me though. Sniping is enjoyable again. The killcams are fun to watch, it’s just too bad I don’t die that often ;), lol. Quick mute is a godsend.
The only real beef I have is the party ‘fix’. It is awkward leaving a room and not dragging my party along. If someone leaves early, that means another invite has to go out. Although that’s not very difficult, it’s still time wasted rather then just jumping into another game after leaving a room. Food for thought…
El Hadji // March 6, 2008 at 7:50 am
Normally I don’t mind paying a small amount for DLC thats good and adds value to a game. But I honestly think that gamers should be compensated in some way for of all the problems since the launch of CoD 4 in November 07. Maybe one really good map pack for free would do the trick?
I have spent several years working with quality management and assurance within the automotive industry. There its simple: if a supplier don’t deliver a product to the customer (such as GM, VAG, PAG, BMW etc etc) that meet specifications they have to adress the issues until they are resolved. And that can cost a supplier millions. If they are unlucky they can also be put on “business hold” meaning that they can’t sign any new contracts until the initial quality issues are sorted out. Maybe the gaming industry should look at themselves and figure out an answer to why we as end buyers should pay for a product that basically is unfinished when released.
Its like going to your local BMW dealer forking up a fortune and on your way back home you discover that the car only delivers half the acceleration, speed and torque that it should according to its specs. When you call the dealer he says - “This isn’t my problem. Talk to the manufacturer.” So you call BMW: “oh, THAT issue… Well there be a patch out in… eh… like 2-3 months… But hey - why don’t you take this Wunderbaum a put in your rear view mirror as a token of our understanding for your situation”…
I know that variables vary when playing games online and that the systems are complex. But if we stick to the car analogy, so is the market for cars. A BMW should deliver the same performance in polar regions as well as in desert regions, in winter as well as summer, in sunshine, rain and snow. And they do!
So if CoD 4 is sold i Australia it should work with the same performance there as in the rest of the world. If its sold in a PS3 version it should work just as same as it does for PC and XBOX. As a customer I really don’t care if its Sony’s fault, Microsofts, IW’s or Activision’s … I want a working game. Full stop.
Cheers!
El Hadji, XBOX 360 player from Sweden that really enjoy CoD 4 most of the time but feels sorry for those who can’t get as much out of the game as I do…
WUTEVRMAN // March 6, 2008 at 8:04 pm
I think the 1 free (if there is a total of 4) and 500 points for the other 3 would be a novel idea (if there is a cost).

i love this game so much i had it on 360 but my 360 took a shit so i bought a ps3 so i bought this thing twice in a month!!! im new to online multiplayer and this game has me hooked. i bought halo 3 just for the multiplayer thinking it would be as awesome but it pales in comparison big time.great job .looking forward to ps3 patch and new maps.this game is an absolute masterpiece and everyone i know who has it loves it

A remake of older cod2 and cod3 maps would be nice too
Skulduggerer // March 8, 2008 at 10:01 am
I’d pay for the first batch (up to 800).
But i’d hope you start dropping in free ones along with new playlists, as more competitive titles are released (Battlefield:BC / Gears 2).
But you guys know how to play the game, i’m sure you’ve got it sussed.
s5casto // March 10, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I am really hoping these new maps come out soon. I have a couple of friends that have stopped playing because they are bored with the maps and I think some others that may move to Rainbow Six 2 when it comes out shortly. I think COD4 will probably blow that game away, but some people will move on just because its fresh and new. I also want to say martyrdom and claymores are my best friends - thanks for the perks!
JoeSmoke84 // March 10, 2008 at 8:16 pm
This is awesome that 402 is even giving you guys the knowledge that he has…. which by the way you are awesome I am in total suspense and I like that…. I would also like to add 402 if you can suggest anything to IW and they will listen please let them know that I for one would like more weapons and perks and would also like another something past the helicopter I had a 21 kill streak the other day and all I got was 0ne Helo…. but anyway enough of my complaining …. you guys that are complaining about paying for maps not all of that money goes to IW most of it goes to Xbox Live to make it what it is… trust me I own the PS3 and have owned everything that sony has created and my 360 embarasses my PS3 online…. so quit being cheap arses…. what is 1000 points ( less than $20) I will gladly pay 20 dollars for months more fun…. thanks for all you do 402….. later Smoke
duckmouth // March 11, 2008 at 8:18 am
Amen JoeSmoke84, quit being so tight everyone. I bet you each have got way more than 100 hours out of this game, that’s around 60 cents an hour. And now you want free maps as a ‘thank you’? Ridiculous. You should be happy to ‘thank’ IW by paying for this, letting them get the income they deserve, and encourage more new maps in the future and continued support of this sublime videogame.
El Hadji // March 11, 2008 at 8:43 am
Like I said before - normally I don’t mind paying for good, solid DLC. COD 4 is a VERY good game, but saying that playing it online has been happy days all the time would be lying.
First MS took the blame since they didn’t manage to predict the increase in XBL sign ups during and after X-mas. Then IW puts a patch out that didn’t really solve the major issues and created a bunch a new ones. Still, most of us stay loyal to the game and keep playing the game (never mind the controller shaped holes in plasma screens around the globe…
eventhough we have to struggle with getting online, finding lag free games, keeping parties together, etc etc. We have payed for the game and we pay to play on XBOX Live. Sure - MS provided us with a really crappy arcade game as “compensation” in January but that wasn’t what people wanted - they wanted a properly working game!
So if half the statements from MS and IW are true, about how much they really appreciate us gamers, the first batch of DLC should be free. As a token of their appreciation of us keeping our faith in that the products they make their money from eventually will work according to specs.
This is not about gamers wanting hand-outs and freebees. Its not about people being greedy and tight. Its about common sense…
Concerned // March 11, 2008 at 9:03 pm
Don’t bother writing on this blog it seems no one is listening nothing has been reported for a long time, its not like they don’t have time to keep us updated they do work on computers not hard to keep everyone updated.
When a customer wants to know whats going on with their product they payed for they should be looked after, not ignored.
At any store out there if your not happy or disatisfied with service for what you payed for you are looked after compensated reasonalbly because that buisness knows that they only stay alive because of customers and they want your buisness to be with them again a happy customer is a faithful customer. NOT HAPPENING HERE!

Any chance we could be able to control the direction of air strikes in the future? Some maps air strikes really suck unless your lucky enough for them to land parallel with the street.

Does any one know why? since the new patch I can’t host and americans keep taking over the room? I pay heaps for my internet connection so I can host and just play with my friends. Thanks to anyone who can explain.
